Ethio telecom and the African Development Bank (AfDB) have launched strategic talks aimed at advancing Ethiopia’s digital transformation and enhancing Africa’s broader digital economy.
In a high-level meeting at Ethio telecom, AfDB Vice President H.E. Mr. Solomon Quaynor, alongside senior officials, engaged with CEO Frehiwot Tamru to explore financing opportunities for the telecom giant’s ambitious initiatives. These include expanding digital infrastructure, enhancing rural connectivity, and fostering innovation in fintech and cloud services.
Frehiwot emphasized Ethio telecom’s role as a transformative force in Ethiopia and across Africa, driving digital inclusion and economic opportunities. She highlighted the critical need for financing to expand telecom networks, which serve as foundational enablers for various sectors.
AfDB praised Ethio telecom’s progress in bridging the digital divide and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the company’s $1.1 billion investment plan for telecom and digital infrastructure. This collaboration marks a significant step toward achieving a connected and digitally empowered Africa.
