Minister Solly Malatsi calls for stronger digital safety measures and urges TikTok to expand monetization for South Africa’s 17 million users.

Solly Malatsi, Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies (RSA), South Africa recently delivered the keynote address at the TikTok Safer Internet Summit.

The digital age has brought extraordinary opportunities, but it has also introduced new risks such as cybercrime, misinformation, and deepfakes.

The rise of these threats requires collaboration between government and platforms to protect users, particularly children, from harm online.

– Solly Malatsi, Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies (RSA), South Africa

Minister Solly Malatsi mentioned that with over 17 million TikTok users, South Africa is the ideal place to expand TikTok’s Creator Fund in Africa.

During his keynote speech Minister Solly Malatsi made his position clear:

South African creators deserve full access to monetization offerings on the platform. TikTok has committed to taking this feedback on board and our engagements will continue.
