Enghouse Networks at GITEX Africa 2025: Driving 5G Innovation and AI-Powered Agility for Emerging Markets

Author: Akim Benamara

At GITEX Africa 2025 in Marrakesh, our Founder and Chief Editor, Akim Benamara, engaged in a compelling conversation with Charbel Fadel, Technical Sales Manager EMEA at Enghouse Networks. The discussion shed light on how Enghouse Networks is innovating to meet the demands of next-generation communication services, particularly in the context of 5G adoption and emerging markets like Africa.

Talking Points
  • 0:41Enghouse’s 5G adaptation
  • 1:54AI-driven fault management and conversational interfaces for complex networks
  • 3:20AI-powered SMS spam and fraud detection with adaptive learning
  • 4:45Balancing threat detection accuracy with user experience
  • 5:55Supporting African operators with agile, scalable, and flexible solutions

Embracing 5G: Transforming Network Functions and Deployment

Enghouse Networks is proactively adapting to the 5G era by overhauling both the functionality and deployment of its products. “We invested heavily in new key network functions in the core network,” explained Fadel, highlighting developments such as the SMS function and cell broadcast capabilities essential for 5G messaging. Beyond functionality, the company has modernized its entire product portfolio to support cloud-native deployment, making solutions available as containerized network functions (CNFs). This dual focus ensures readiness for the evolving technological landscape and supports rapid, flexible deployment.

AI-Driven Fault Management: Staying Ahead in Complex Networks

Addressing the growing complexity of multi-vendor networks, Enghouse leverages artificial intelligence to automate fault management. Fadel noted, “There are no new faults in the network. Everything that occurs has likely already happened before.” By continuously monitoring fault patterns and correlating them with network topology, AI enables precise root cause identification linked to specific services. This approach not only accelerates troubleshooting but also introduces conversational user interfaces, allowing operators to interact with the network intuitively—for example, querying site status or capacity in real time.

Combating SMS Fraud with Adaptive AI

Spam and fraud remain significant challenges in SMS communications. Enghouse’s SmartGuard solution employs AI in two complementary ways: pattern recognition and adaptive learning based on historical operator data. “With AI and machine learning, we are always one step ahead of fraudsters and spammers,” Fadel emphasized. Unlike traditional rule-based firewalls that may block legitimate messages due to keyword matching, their system analyzes message context and traffic behavior to minimize false positives, enhancing user experience while maintaining robust security.

Balancing Security and User Experience

The conversation also touched on the delicate balance between effective threat detection and maintaining smooth service for end users. Fadel explained that their AI system builds a “conceptual behavioral pattern” by learning from operator-specific data, allowing it to distinguish malicious activity without disrupting legitimate communications. This contextual approach marks a significant advancement over rigid, keyword-based filtering systems.

Supporting African Operators with Agile, Scalable Solutions

Recognizing Africa’s rapid subscriber growth and diverse market needs, Enghouse is committed to providing adaptable service assurance and SMS firewall solutions tailored for the region. “We enable our partners to be fast and deliver new solutions faster to the network,” said Fadel. The company offers flexible deployment options—including cloud, on-premises, and hybrid models—to accommodate varying infrastructure realities across urban and rural areas. This agility is critical on a continent where demand and technological maturity differ widely between countries.

“At Enghouse Networks, we recognize the importance and the agility and the growth of the African market. We know that subscribers are growing very fast, and operators need to adapt rapidly to this growth. And so, we help not only the operators, but also, we work with banks, with government entities. And we provide solutions like service assurance, SMS firewall, but also NBNO-enabled systems.”

Enghouse Networks’ strategic investment in 5G-ready core functions, AI-powered automation, and flexible deployment models positions it as a key enabler for operators navigating the complexities of next-generation networks.
