Egypt’s MCIT and UNICEF Launch Digital Safety Awareness Sessions in Assiut
The Digital Citizenship and Online Safety initiative aims to equip citizens with the knowledge and skills needed to live, learn, and work safely in an increasingly digital environment.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) held a series of awareness sessions on Internet-related risks and digital citizenship, from July 8 to 10, as part of the Digital Citizenship and Online Safety initiative. The sessions were organized in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Assiut Governorate, and took place at Misr Public Library – Assiut branch.
The sessions focused on online protection mechanisms, support and reporting channels, and how to access them. Participants explored the risks associated with digital platforms and learned about tools to navigate cyberspace securely and responsibly.
This initiative falls within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MCIT and Assiut Governorate, which aims to build digital capacity and promote digital empowerment for citizens in the governorate. The sessions formed part of broader efforts to promote responsible digital practices and raise public awareness about Internet-related risks.
The Digital Citizenship and Online Safety initiative aims to equip citizens with the knowledge and skills needed to live, learn, and work safely in an increasingly digital environment. It contributes to achieving the objectives of the Digital Egypt strategy by fostering a culture of ethical, legal, and informed digital engagement.
Through its various activities across governorates, the initiative pays special attention to empowering children and young people to navigate the online world safely. It provides targeted training and awareness programs to help them understand the implications of their digital behavior and adopt safe online practices, in collaboration with key partners.
