The one-week programme, hosted in China, will expose participants to advanced technology training and cultural exchange.

Five top-performing tech students from universities across Zambia departed for China on 19 July 2025 to take part in Huawei’s  flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Seeds for the Future. The one-week programme, hosted in China, will expose participants to advanced technology training and cultural exchange.

First launched in Thailand in 2008 and introduced to Zambia in 2015, Seeds for the Future has so far benefitted over 100 Zambian students. Globally, more than 12,000 students from 137 countries have participated in the programme, delivered in partnership with over 500 universities. It focuses on emerging technologies such as 5G, AI, and Cloud Computing.

During a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Technology and Science,  the students were received by Permanent Secretary Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, who praised Huawei’s continued contribution to Zambia’s human capital development.

“We thank Huawei for empowering our youth through innovation and technology. As a country, we need such initiatives to optimize sectors like agriculture and mining. I urge the students to absorb as much knowledge as possible and bring back innovative solutions that will benefit Zambia.”

-Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Technology and Science, Zambia.

He also urged the students to represent Zambia with pride and professionalism, emphasising that the experience would strengthen their leadership, technical skills, and social responsibility.

Speaking on behalf of the group, student representative Samukhele Ngoma described the opportunity as transformative and reaffirmed their collective commitment to the programme’s goals.

Huawei Public Relations Manager Louis Mwape highlighted the company’s alignment with Zambia’s Vision 2030.

“Students need to be trained and equipped with modern ICT skills and tools because digital transformation remains key to attain Zambia’s 2030 vision, of attaining middle prosperous nation status.”

-Louis Mwape, Public Relations Manager, Huawei

He also commended the government for its continued support and engagement with the initiative.
