WeThinkCode Partners with South Cape TVET College to Launch Rural Software Engineering Programme
This collaboration is a key part of WeThinkCode_'s strategy to replicate its successful training model beyond major urban centers.
In a landmark effort to bring software engineering education to underserved communities, WeThinkCode_ has launched a new partnership with South Cape TVET College. The initiative, supported by the DG Murray Trust and the Caterpillar Foundation, will provide a rigorous training program for a cohort of 30 students at the Hessequa Campus in Riversdale. This collaboration is a key part of WeThinkCode_’s strategy to replicate its successful training model beyond major urban centers.

The 18-month curriculum mirrors the high standards of WeThinkCode_’s other programs, with students earning an NQF Level 6 Occupational Certificate in Software Engineering. The training covers foundational software development and advanced specializations in areas like mobile development, cloud computing, and AI. To address the unique challenges of rural students, the partnership ensures on-campus accommodation, making the program more accessible to those from remote and disadvantaged backgrounds.
David Modiba, Deputy Director of DHET TVET Curriculum Development, highlighted the partnership’s role in aligning education with industry needs.

WeThinkCode_ is actively seeking to expand this model by engaging with key stakeholders, including government, industry, and funders. The initiative offers a scalable public-private model for the government, a pipeline of job-ready tech talent for industry partners, and a high-impact investment opportunity for funders.
