Google Launches AI Mode in Search Across Africa
This new feature is designed to provide a single, AI-powered response that understands the user's intent, moving beyond traditional search queries.

Google has launched AI Mode in Google Search across Africa, a new search experience that uses a custom version of its latest Gemini 2.5 model to answer complex, multi-part questions. This new feature is designed to provide a single, AI-powered response that understands the user’s intent, moving beyond traditional search queries.
Available as a new tab on the search results page and in the Google app for both Android and iOS, AI Mode is particularly useful for exploratory tasks like planning a trip or understanding complex topics. It utilizes a “query fan-out” technique that breaks down a user’s question into subtopics and simultaneously issues multiple queries to the web, allowing it to provide a more comprehensive and hyper-relevant response.
AI Mode also features multimodal capabilities, allowing users to ask questions using text, voice, or by uploading an image. According to Google, this functionality helps users discover content from across a wide range of sources, with prominent links provided in the response for easy access. The company emphasized that this new feature is rooted in its core quality and ranking systems and is committed to continuous improvement.
