This collaboration underscores a growing synergy between South Africa’s financial and public sectors, showcasing how digital innovation can be harnessed to improve service delivery and promote inclusion nationwide.

TymeBank  has announced a landmark collaboration with South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs (DHA)  to streamline access to Smart IDs and passports for millions of citizens. The initiative is set to significantly improve convenience, security, and efficiency in the delivery of critical public services.

As one of the country’s fastest-growing digital banks, TymeBank will leverage its technology-driven model to support the DHA’s modernization agenda. With more than 11 million customers, the bank is positioned to play a key role in extending access to identity and travel documents, especially for people in remote and underserved areas.

The partnership is part of the DHA’s broader digital reform strategy, designed to make services more inclusive and accessible. By integrating TymeBank’s secure digital infrastructure, the initiative aims to strengthen data protection, ensure system integrity, and enhance reliability in the issuance of Smart IDs and passports.

The rollout will begin with a pilot phase at TymeBank’s Johannesburg head office, where systems and processes will be tested. Once successful, services will be expanded to TymeBank locations across the country. Citizens will be notified as DHA services become available at their nearest branch.
