At a media briefing, Hon. George clarified that the ongoing interventions, which include migrating AT subscribers onto Telecel’s network and appointing a transaction advisor, are emergency measures designed to ensure uninterrupted service for more than three million customers.

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations,  Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), has dismissed speculation about a potential merger or acquisition involving Airtel Ghana Limited (AT), following recent regulatory measures aimed at protecting subscribers.

At a media briefing, Hon. George clarified that the ongoing interventions, which include migrating AT subscribers onto Telecel’s network and appointing a transaction advisor, are emergency measures designed to ensure uninterrupted service for more than three million customers.

“Let me be clear that this current arrangement is not a merger or acquisition. We will only know and take that decision after the transaction advisor completes its work and presents its recommendations for consideration by Government.”

– Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Ghana

KPMG , appointed as the transaction advisor, has 60 days to evaluate AT’s debt situation, explore future options for the company, and propose ways to strengthen competition in Ghana’s telecom sector.

The Minister also assured AT staff that their jobs remain secure during this period, covering both permanent and contract employees. He urged all stakeholders, including subscribers, creditors, and tower companies, to remain calm and await the advisor’s final report before drawing conclusions about AT’s future.
