The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC)  has strengthened its engagement with Airtel Africa  as part of efforts to accelerate digital transformation and expand connectivity across the country.

On Friday, UCC Executive Director Hon. Nyombi Thembo hosted a delegation from Airtel led by Sunil Taldar, Group CEO of Airtel Africa plc. The delegation also included Apoorva Mehrotra, Regional CEO for East Africa, and Soumendra Sahu, Managing Director of Airtel Uganda.

The meeting focused on strategic investments in digital infrastructure, with discussions covering network expansion, improved user experiences, and measures to enhance efficiency and competition within the telecom sector.

Other key areas of engagement included making digital devices more accessible and affordable to ensure that technology adoption benefits all segments of the population. Emphasis was placed on bridging the digital divide and promoting inclusive growth in line with Uganda’s digital transformation agenda.

Airtel was recognized as a key player in advancing Uganda’s digital economy, and both sides committed to fostering investment, encouraging innovation, and overcoming existing challenges. The initiatives discussed are expected to strengthen Uganda’s position as a regional hub for digital development and support the country’s long-term economic ambitions.
