These initiatives are designed to serve as the backbone of Ethiopia’s long-term development strategy and to foster resilience in a rapidly evolving global digital economy.

Ethiopia and China have taken a major step to deepen their partnership in the digital and emerging technology sectors, following a high-level bilateral dialogue held in Addis Ababa. The meeting, co-chaired by Ethiopia’s Minister of Innovation and Technology, Belete Molla Getahun, and China’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Li Lecheng, was themed “Digital & Emerging Tech Industry Collaboration: Advancing Practical Cooperation for Sustainable Development.”

The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the digital era, highlighting the importance of leveraging smart, future-focused solutions for sustainable development. Minister Belete Molla stressed that the partnership between Ethiopia and China goes beyond traditional diplomacy, describing it as a relationship built on shared vision, political trust, and mutual development goals.

Central to this collaboration is Ethiopia’s Digital Transformation Agenda, which prioritizes the expansion of digital infrastructure, enhancement of e-government services, development of digital skills, and establishment of innovation hubs. These initiatives are designed to serve as the backbone of Ethiopia’s long-term development strategy and to foster resilience in a rapidly evolving global digital economy.

To formalize the partnership, both ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signaling the start of a new chapter in Ethiopia–China technology cooperation. The agreement is expected to drive mutual growth, promote sustainable innovation, and further integrate Ethiopia into the global digital ecosystem.

Minister Belete Molla expressed gratitude to the Chinese delegation for their continued support, underscoring Ethiopia’s readiness to work with China in building a digital future that advances shared prosperity and sustainable development.
