Zimbabwe has joined the global community in commemorating the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI 2025), an event that also marked the 10th anniversary of the day’s international recognition. The celebrations, held on October 9, were co-hosted by the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services and the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, with participation from UNESCO, the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), the Zimbabwe Association of Accredited Practitioners in Advertising, and other stakeholders.

During the event, Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Hon. Tatenda A. Mavetera emphasized the importance of bridging the digital divide to ensure inclusive participation in the digital era. A new state-of-the-art Digital Centre was commissioned in Selous, providing high-speed internet access and ICT services to the local community.

Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Jenfan Muswere, highlighted the need to strengthen media freedom, transparency, and citizen empowerment through access to credible information. He noted that universal access to information is fundamental to democracy, accountability, and national development, urging greater collaboration to extend digital inclusion to underserved rural areas.

As part of the commemorations, Saruwe and Dombwe Secondary Schools were equipped with computers and Starlink kits to enhance digital learning and access to online educational resources. The government reaffirmed its commitment to working with UNESCO and other partners to expand digital access across Zimbabwe.
