Kenya Pushes Postal Digitisation to Power the Digital Economy
The celebration underscored Kenya’s renewed focus on digitising postal services, fostering innovation, and strengthening connectivity — key pillars for advancing the nation’s digital economy and inclusive development agenda.

Kenya joined the global community in celebrating the 151st World Post Day, reaffirming its commitment to transforming the nation’s postal sector into a modern, digitised engine of growth and inclusion. The celebrations, held in Nairobi, were led by the Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr. Stephen Isaboke, who represented the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, Hon. William Kabogo Gitau.
This year’s theme, “PostForPeople: Local Service. Global Reach,” aligns with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) — a blueprint focused on inclusive economic growth, equitable opportunities, and technological empowerment from the grassroots to the global level.
In his remarks, Mr. Isaboke highlighted the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) as a vital public service institution with immense potential to drive the digital economy through e-commerce, logistics, and digital financial services. He underscored the Ministry’s resolve to reposition Posta Kenya as a central player in the country’s digital transformation journey.
The PS also commended the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) for effectively utilising the Universal Service Fund (USF) to modernise postal infrastructure in underserved areas. This, he noted, ensures the provision of affordable, reliable, and inclusive postal and courier services across the country.
“As we celebrate World Post Day, we renew our resolve to make the Post a pillar of Kenya’s digital and economic transformation. Through innovation, partnership, and vision, we can build a 21st-century Posta Kenya that truly delivers — for the people, for business, and for the nation,”
– Stephen Isaboke, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Kenya
The event was attended by senior government officials, including Mr. Alphonse Kanuga (Secretary, Postal Service and Telecommunications), Ms. Patricia Ondeng (Secretary, Public Communication), and Mr. Temesi Mukani (Secretary, Information and Broadcasting). Also present were Post-Master General Mr. John Tonui and Communications Authority Director General Mr. David Mugonyi, alongside other dignitaries and industry leaders.
