OpenAI has released a new integration that embeds ChatGPT directly into Slack, making the AI assistant accessible from within the platform. The addition includes a dedicated sidebar in Slack where users can chat with ChatGPT, brainstorm ideas, draft responses, and pull in contextual information without toggling between apps.
The integration maintains continuity: conversations initiated in Slack are synchronized with the user’s ChatGPT interface, so work can seamlessly continue across platforms. In addition, OpenAI is releasing a standalone Slack connector, enabling ChatGPT to tap into Slack’s context—such as messages and channels—to better inform responses.
This feature rollout supports use cases such as summarizing long conversations, drafting replies, and surfacing relevant Slack messages or files. It is available to users across multiple subscription tiers, though installation and usage depend on workspace admin permissions and account settings.
With this development, ChatGPT becomes more embedded in the work environment—no longer a separate interface but a collaborative companion inside Slack, designed to streamline workflows and reduce context switching.
