Kenya Advances Plans for Digital National Addressing System to Boost Governance and Connectivity
The system will integrate physical locations, property identification, and geo-spatial data to improve service delivery, support urban planning, enhance emergency response, streamline postal operations, and facilitate e-commerce.
Kenya is moving forward with plans to implement a Digital National Addressing System (NAS) aimed at creating a unified, digital framework for addresses across the country. The system will integrate physical locations, property identification, and geo-spatial data to improve service delivery, support urban planning, enhance emergency response, streamline postal operations, and facilitate e-commerce.
The initiative, prioritized by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, will assign a unique national address to every property, household, business, and institution. This digital addressing system is designed to strengthen governance, drive economic growth, and improve connectivity. The NAS will be integrated with other government systems as part of the broader digitisation agenda under the Digital Superhighway pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
A consultative meeting was held to guide the development of the system, bringing together government officials and experts with international experience in national addressing frameworks. The Ministry is collaborating with multiple stakeholders, including other ministries, agencies, and county governments, to establish a modern and inclusive addressing system.
Officials attending the meeting included the Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Secretary for Administration, the Head of Public Communication Unit, and the Director of Licensing & Compliance at the Communications Authority of Kenya.
