November 25, 2025
2 min read

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building a modern, inclusive, and digitally empowered Botswana, where technology fuels opportunity, economic growth, and national pride.

Botswana’s Minister of Communications and Innovation, Hon. David Tshere, hosted his first media briefing, unveiling a series of major achievements driving the country’s digital transformation agenda.

During the briefing, the Minister announced significant reductions in internet and mobile data prices, a move expected to expand digital access and reduce the cost burden for citizens and businesses. He also highlighted the rapid rollout of fibre-optic infrastructure to underserved communities, ensuring more equitable connectivity across the country.

A key milestone shared was the readiness of the Digital Delta Data Centre, a state-of-the-art national facility set to officially open on 25 November. The centre is expected to strengthen Botswana’s digital capacity, enhance data sovereignty, and support the growth of a knowledge-driven economy.

Minister Tshere also reported continued progress on the government’s 1Gov platform, which is expanding its range of online public services. He further outlined newly introduced digital legislation designed to boost cybersecurity, improve service delivery, and enable greater innovation across multiple sectors.

Botswana’s technological advancement is poised for further acceleration with the commercialisation of BOTSAT-1 satellite data, positioning the nation as an emerging player in the regional digital and space industries.

In a proud national moment, the Minister celebrated three female students from the University of Botswana who recently presented award-winning innovations at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conference, showcasing the country’s growing talent on the global stage.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building a modern, inclusive, and digitally empowered Botswana, where technology fuels opportunity, economic growth, and national pride.
