Airtel Uganda Invests in Future Leaders Through Tech Fellowship
The fellowship is aimed at empowering some of Uganda’s brightest young minds by providing them with opportunities to pursue their aspirations while contributing meaningfully to their communities, the country, and the African continent.
Airtel Uganda has unveiled 20 outstanding winners of the #AirtelAfricaTechFellowship during an event held at its Bugolobi offices. The ceremony brought together key industry leaders and stakeholders to celebrate young innovators selected for the prestigious program.
Among the dignitaries present were Hannington Karuhanga, Airtel Uganda Ltd Board Chairman, and Soumendra Sahu, Airtel Uganda’s CEO and Managing Director, alongside other distinguished guests.
The fellowship is aimed at empowering some of Uganda’s brightest young minds by providing them with opportunities to pursue their aspirations while contributing meaningfully to their communities, the country, and the African continent.
“We received 341 applications from across the country. Applicants were asked to share how they would impact the nation, and we conducted phone interviews to validate merit. Using multiple evaluation methods, we shortlisted the top 20 students from universities nationwide.”

“In my 14 months here, I’ve seen many brilliant minds unable to access the right opportunities, which affects society as a whole. These 20 young people, when given the chance, will innovate and take the country to the next level. Hannington Karuhanga, Airtel Uganda’s Chairman, reiterated the company’s commitment to youth empowerment through strategic corporate investments in education, health, and schools.
“We began by revamping primary schools and stocking libraries. We also focused on sports, prioritizing the health and performance of young people. The impact of these initiatives will be lasting. The fellowship is a promise to invest in the future of these young leaders. Airtel Africa also partners with UNICEF, transforming how children engage with digital tools.”
