Ozow and Happy Pay Partner to Introduce Buy Now, Pay Later for South African Merchants

The collaboration comes as e-commerce continues to expand in South Africa, with merchants increasingly seeking ways to improve conversion rates and meet evolving consumer expectations.

Ozow,  a leading South African fintech and payments provider, has partnered with Happy Pay  to introduce Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) functionality to its merchant network, enabling businesses to offer flexible payment options at checkout while maintaining a seamless and secure transaction experience.

The collaboration comes as e-commerce continues to expand in South Africa, with merchants increasingly seeking ways to improve conversion rates and meet evolving consumer expectations. BNPL has emerged as a key solution in addressing demand for greater financial flexibility and improved checkout experiences.

Through this partnership, Ozow merchants will be able to offer BNPL directly within their existing payment flow, with no additional integration required. Customers will be able to split purchases over two paycheques, interest-free if payments are made on time, making transactions more accessible and manageable.

For merchants, the introduction of BNPL is expected to deliver several benefits, including higher conversion rates, increased average order values, improved customer acquisition, and reduced cart abandonment. Merchants will also receive weekly settlement of the full transaction value, while Happy Pay manages customer repayment and collections.

BNPL adoption is growing rapidly both in South Africa and globally, with more than 300 million consumers using BNPL solutions worldwide. It now accounts for approximately 5–6% of global e-commerce payments. This growth is being driven by shifting consumer behaviour, with shoppers increasingly prioritising transparency, flexibility, and control in their payment options.

A key feature of the Ozow and Happy Pay partnership is its low-friction integration. Merchants can enable BNPL without additional development work, making it one of the fastest ways to introduce a new payment method into existing checkout systems. Businesses are also encouraged to implement Happy Pay’s widget and Buy Now, Pay Later pull-out button to enhance visibility and improve conversion performance.

Beyond payments, qualifying merchants will also gain access to Happy Pay’s “Happy Ads” platform, which provides personalised product-level marketing tools designed to support customer acquisition and repeat purchases. This aligns with Ozow’s broader strategy of evolving into a full commerce enablement platform that supports end-to-end business growth.

By combining seamless payment processing with flexible financing solutions, the partnership aims to reduce friction at checkout, improve merchant performance, and better serve modern consumers. As BNPL becomes an increasingly standard feature in digital commerce, the integration positions Ozow merchants to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving e-commerce landscape.
