Ghana and U.S. Deepen Digital Cooperation With Focus on Satellite Technology and AI Policy
The facility will provide working capital and capital expenditure financing to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) operating within export value chains across key sectors of the Zimbabwean economy, including agribusiness, manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics.
Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (Ghana) has held discussions with a United States government delegation to strengthen bilateral cooperation in digital transformation, with a key focus on satellite technology governance, artificial intelligence strategy, and digital skills development.
The meeting, led by Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, explored opportunities for expanded collaboration between both countries in areas such as digital infrastructure, connectivity expansion, and emerging technologies.
The U.S. delegation included senior officials from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), along with representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Ghana. The talks reflected growing cooperation on digital policy, capacity building, and innovation-driven development.
A central theme of the engagement was the responsible deployment of satellite technology. Minister Sam George emphasized the need for strong regulatory frameworks to ensure satellite services are deployed in a legal, secure, and competitive manner that safeguards national interests while supporting connectivity expansion.
The discussions also highlighted Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda, including ongoing regulatory reforms, the development of a national artificial intelligence strategy, and initiatives aimed at positioning the country as a leading digital hub in Africa.
The Minister further referenced Ghana’s One Million Coders Programme, which is designed to equip young people with coding and digital skills to prepare them for the future economy. He also welcomed continued partnerships in digital skills training and innovation.
The U.S. delegation commended Ghana’s digital policy direction and expressed appreciation for Ghana’s role in hosting satellite training under the United States Telecommunication Training Institute (USTTI), marking a milestone in bilateral cooperation.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration in digital innovation, satellite communications, and inclusive economic development, with the shared goal of advancing a secure and technology-driven future for Ghana.
