Kenya Investigates Cybersecurity Incident Affecting Presidential Website
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Kenya's digital infrastructure and ensuring the continued security and resilience of government online services as investigations into the incident continue.
Kenya’s Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy has confirmed that the official website of the President was affected by a cybersecurity incident, prompting the immediate activation of national cyber incident response measures.
In a statement dated 18 July 2026, Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo Gitau said the incident was detected by the ICT Authority, which immediately implemented established cybersecurity response protocols. As a precautionary measure, access to the Presidential website was temporarily restricted to facilitate containment, forensic analysis and system restoration.
The ministry said appropriate mitigation measures have since been implemented and restoration of the website is underway. Authorities emphasized that there is currently no evidence of unauthorized access to sensitive data, data exfiltration, or loss of information, adding that government systems and digital services remain secure and fully operational.
The ICT Authority is working closely with relevant government agencies and technical partners to conduct a comprehensive forensic investigation into the incident. The investigation aims to determine the full circumstances surrounding the cybersecurity breach while supporting the secure restoration of the affected website.
