The partnership is aimed at expanding M-PESA's digital ecosystem beyond payments by enabling users to access AI-powered services for learning, content creation, software development, and business innovation.

M-PESA Ethiopia  has partnered with Ethiopian technology company Gebeya Inc.  to launch the Gebeya Dala Studio Mini App on the M-PESA App, giving customers easier access to artificial intelligence (AI) tools through the mobile money platform.

The partnership is aimed at expanding M-PESA’s digital ecosystem beyond payments by enabling users to access AI-powered services for learning, content creation, software development, and business innovation. Through the integration, customers can purchase AI service bundles securely using M-PESA and access a range of creative and productivity tools.

According to M-PESA Ethiopia, the initiative is designed to support a broad spectrum of users, including students, entrepreneurs, developers, and content creators. The AI platform enables users to create applications, websites, games, videos, music, and other digital content using generative AI technologies.

To access the service, customers first create an account on the Gebeya Dala platform before opening the Gebeya Dala AI Mini App within the M-PESA Mini Apps section. After selecting a preferred AI bundle, users can complete payment through M-PESA and receive an SMS containing a voucher code, which can be redeemed on the Dala platform to activate AI credits. Customers will also receive 1GB of complimentary Safaricom data with every successful purchase.

M-PESA Ethiopia said the collaboration reflects its strategy of building a broader digital ecosystem that connects customers to innovative services beyond financial transactions. By integrating AI services into its Mini App platform, the company aims to make emerging technologies more accessible through secure and seamless digital payments.

The partnership with Gebeya is expected to lower barriers to AI adoption in Ethiopia by enabling more individuals and businesses to access advanced digital tools that can enhance creativity, improve productivity, and support innovation across various sectors.
