Heirs Insurance Group Strengthens Growth with NAICOM Recapitalisation Compliance

The milestone follows the conclusion of NAICOM's recapitalisation programme, which is expected to strengthen Nigeria's insurance industry and enhance its capacity to support larger investments, infrastructure projects and economic growth.

Heirs Insurance Group  has met the National Insurance Commission’s (NAICOM)  revised recapitalisation requirements, with both Heirs General Insurance and Heirs Life Assurance included on the regulator’s list of insurance companies that have satisfied the new minimum capital thresholds. The milestone follows the conclusion of NAICOM’s recapitalisation programme, which is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s insurance industry and enhance its capacity to support larger investments, infrastructure projects and economic growth.

The company said the reforms come at a time when Nigeria is pursuing its ambition of becoming a US$1 trillion economy, with the recapitalisation expected to boost investor confidence by creating insurers with stronger financial resilience, improved governance and greater underwriting capacity to support large-scale investments across multiple sectors.

According to Heirs Insurance Group, meeting the new capital requirements positions the company to pursue larger local and international opportunities. The strengthened capital base is expected to expand the Group’s ability to retain larger risks, participate in more complex transactions, forge strategic partnerships with multinational organisations and provide risk protection for both domestic and international investors operating in Nigeria.

“This is a significant transformation point for us at Heirs Insurance Group and Nigeria’s insurance industry as a whole. The recapitalisation reforms open up the industry for more competition and creates opportunities to support the scale of investments Nigeria requires. We are ready to take advantage of the numerous opportunities this brings and commit to deepening financial inclusion, strengthening strategic partnerships and redefining insurance through technology and customer-centric innovation, as we have always done.”

Niyi Onifade, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Heirs Life Assurance

The Group noted that it enters the new phase with several competitive advantages already established. Over the past five years, Heirs Insurance Group said it has built one of Africa’s fastest-growing insurance businesses through technology-driven innovation, simplified customer experiences and a robust digital ecosystem.

Earlier this year, Heirs Life Assurance and Heirs General Insurance were recognised among the Financial Times’ Fastest Growing Companies in Africa. The Group also said it has emerged as Nigeria’s leading digital insurance brand through sustained investments in digital distribution, customer engagement and technology-enabled service delivery.

Among its recent innovations, the company highlighted the launch of Prince AI, which it describes as Nigeria’s first multilingual generative AI insurance assistant. The platform enables customers to purchase insurance policies, access information and receive support in multiple local and international languages. The Group has also expanded its digital Experience Centres as part of efforts to simplify insurance services and improve access for underserved communities.

Heirs Insurance Group said its strengthened capital base will further enhance these digital capabilities and reinforce its commitment to driving innovation and expanding insurance accessibility across Nigeria. As the insurance arm of Heirs Holdings, the Group serves both retail and corporate customers through Heirs General Insurance Limited, Heirs Life Assurance Limited and Heirs Insurance Brokers, supporting its broader mission of advancing financial inclusion through technology-enabled insurance services.
