Kenya Advances National Digital ID Platform in Talks With IN Groupe
The discussions focused on developing a national digital identity authentication platform that would allow Kenyans to securely access government and private-sector services using a trusted digital identity.
Kenya is advancing plans to strengthen its digital identity ecosystem following discussions between ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo and a delegation from IN Groupe led by Celine Gouveia, Vice President for Sales and Business Development (Government Programs).
The discussions focused on developing a national digital identity authentication platform that would allow Kenyans to securely access government and private-sector services using a trusted digital identity.
According to Kabogo, the proposed platform would reduce repeated identity verification and minimise the unnecessary submission of personal information when citizens access different services.
The discussions also highlighted the need for coordinated governance of Kenya’s digital public infrastructure. While individual ministries and government agencies would continue managing their respective services, Kabogo said the Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy should provide overarching coordination to ensure interoperability, eliminate duplication and maximise the value of technology investments.
Building public trust in digital identity and government digital services was identified as another priority. The discussions also emphasised value for money in ICT procurement, with decisions to be guided by lifecycle costs, interoperability and proven solutions.
Kenya and IN Groupe agreed to deepen technical and policy collaboration aimed at establishing a trusted and interoperable digital identity ecosystem for the country.
