Democratic Republic of Congo’s Minister of Digital Economy, Augustin Kibassa Maliba, has met with a delegation from Expo Béton, led by its organiser Jean Bamanisa, to discuss the role of digital technologies in urban development.

The meeting comes ahead of the 12th edition of Expo Béton and focused on integrating digital technologies into urban planning, infrastructure modernisation and the development of cities across the DRC.

During the meeting, Kibassa Maliba highlighted the importance of digital technologies in designing and managing modern cities. The discussions identified digital transformation as an increasingly important tool for improving mobility, access to information, urban services and the overall attractiveness of cities.

One of the concepts discussed was “I am digital, I am not stuck,” which highlights how digital infrastructure and services can reduce unnecessary physical travel, improve communication and facilitate the flow of information.

The meeting also addressed the need to properly integrate digital infrastructure, including telecommunications cables, poles and other equipment, into urban spaces while considering safety, aesthetics, urban planning and land use.

The Ministry and Expo Béton team also discussed potential areas of collaboration around smart cities, digital infrastructure and the digital transformation of urban environments.

Kibassa Maliba reaffirmed his willingness to support the initiative and participate in the 12th edition of Expo Béton. The engagement reflects growing efforts to connect digital transformation with urban development as the DRC works towards building more connected and modern cities.
