CAMTEL and SOCADEL Sign MoU to Explore Telecom Infrastructure Sharing in Cameroon

Under the proposed cooperation, CAMTEL could expand fibre-optic deployment by using selected SOCADEL infrastructure and rights-of-way.

Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL)  and electricity company SOCADEL  have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore infrastructure sharing, with the aim of reducing deployment costs, improving network resilience and strengthening service delivery in Cameroon.

The agreement was signed on Friday, October 16, 2026, in Yaoundé and establishes a framework for consultations on opportunities to share existing networks and infrastructure between the two companies.

Under the proposed cooperation, CAMTEL could expand fibre-optic deployment by using selected SOCADEL infrastructure and rights-of-way. This could help diversify transmission routes and strengthen the resilience of its network, from the national backbone to the last mile.

For SOCADEL, access to CAMTEL’s connectivity capabilities could support the interconnection of its agencies, operational centres and other strategic sites, contributing to the modernisation of its electricity network.

The companies said the initiative would help maximise the value of existing infrastructure investments while improving efficiency and limiting the costs associated with deploying new networks.

The partnership also reflects efforts to strengthen cooperation between Cameroon’s telecommunications and energy sectors, with both companies seeking to build more reliable and resilient infrastructure.

The signing of the MoU marks an initial step in the process. Further studies will determine the technical, legal and economic arrangements for the proposed infrastructure sharing, while ensuring compliance with safety requirements and preserving each company’s responsibilities.
