Ramtohul said the partnership would facilitate knowledge transfer, strengthen local digital capabilities and create opportunities for digital transformation across the public and private sectors.
Mauritius’ State Informatics Ltd (SIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to strengthen digital transformation, technology cooperation and innovation in the country.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mauritius’ Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Dr Avinash Ramtohul, and India’s High Commissioner to Mauritius, Anurag Srivastava. The agreement was signed by SIL Managing Director Dr Pramesh Pallanee and TCS President and Regional Head for the Middle East and Africa, Shiju Varghese.
Ramtohul said the partnership would facilitate knowledge transfer, strengthen local digital capabilities and create opportunities for digital transformation across the public and private sectors. He added that the collaboration supports Mauritius’ ambition to become a regional digital hub and a gateway to Africa, particularly through the development of the AI City.
The minister said the agreement would deepen Mauritius-India cooperation in digital technologies while supporting a more innovative, efficient and digitally enabled economy. He also highlighted opportunities to automate public-sector workflows to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
As part of its wider digital transformation agenda, the government is pursuing initiatives to modernise public services, including collaboration between SIL and the National Land Transport Authority to revamp core services. Several additional online services are also in development.
Ramtohul also addressed responsible social media use, particularly among young people, highlighting the importance of public awareness and education. He said the Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Act would be reviewed to address certain offences while strengthening protections for freedom of expression.
Srivastava described the MoU as a strategic partnership combining SIL’s local expertise and public-sector experience with TCS’s global technology capabilities and innovation ecosystem. He reaffirmed India’s support for Mauritius’ ambition to serve as a gateway to Africa, adding that the agreement would create further opportunities for cooperation in digital technologies and global governance.
