The Medusa submarine cable is part of an international subsea telecommunications system spanning the Mediterranean Sea.

The Libyan Technology Foundation (LTF) a ttended the official launch ceremony of O3 Group  in Benghazi on October 17, 2026, where the company announced the arrival of the Medusa submarine cable in the eastern Libyan city.

The foundation was represented by Eng. Saad, who oversees its coordination focal point with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and Eng. Hashem Buzer, director of LTF’s Benghazi office.

During the ceremony, O3 Group outlined plans to develop Libya’s digital infrastructure, including expanding fibre-optic networks, introducing fifth-generation (5G) services, developing data centres and delivering digital solutions. The plans also include strengthening Libya’s connectivity with international telecommunications networks.

The Medusa submarine cable is part of an international subsea telecommunications system spanning the Mediterranean Sea. Its arrival in Benghazi could support efforts to expand international connectivity capacity and diversify data transmission routes, creating opportunities for the development of internet services and digital infrastructure in Libya. However, the announcement of the cable’s arrival does not confirm that it has been commissioned or that services are operational.

LTF’s participation in the event reflects its interest in monitoring developments in Libya’s technology sector, engaging with industry organisations and following projects aimed at advancing the country’s telecommunications infrastructure and digital capabilities.
