TPC Africa Launches Mobile Virtual Network Operator in South Africa

The service combines mobile voice and data packages with digital payment features, targeting both consumers and entrepreneurs.

Bathabile Moreki, founder of The Perfume Co Africa (TPC Africa) , has launched TPC Africa Mobile, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in South Africa that provides prepaid connectivity using MTN’s network infrastructure. The service combines mobile voice and data packages with digital payment features, targeting both consumers and entrepreneurs.

Customers can access TPC Africa Mobile through an application available on the Apple App Store and Google Play. Its prepaid bundles start at ZAR 1.50, while customers can transfer their existing phone numbers to the service through the standard mobile number portability process. The company relies on MTN’s existing network rather than building and operating its own cellular infrastructure.

The launch also draws on TPC Africa’s existing business network, which includes more than 300,000 independent business owners across the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Moreki clarified that this figure represents the company’s entrepreneur network, not mobile subscribers or active sales agents. TPC Africa Mobile also plans to enable eligible entrepreneurs to earn commissions by selling airtime and data.

Beyond connectivity, the app provides airtime, mobile data, voice packages, SMS bundles and combined plans. Its MyWallet feature supports voucher purchases, payments for selected bills and electricity purchases. Users can also manage linked phone numbers and SIM details through the platform.

The initial rollout is limited to South Africa, with eSIM and postpaid services not included in the launch offering. The company plans to assess customer adoption, repeat usage and service performance before committing to further investment. Expansion into other African markets remains a possibility, depending on regulatory approvals, network partnerships and commercial viability.
