Mozambique’s INCM and FUNDEC Explore Partnership to Boost Digital Connectivity
The discussions focused on areas where cooperation could strengthen the relationship between communications infrastructure and economic growth.
Mozambique’s Communications Regulatory Authority (INCM) has held discussions with the Foundation for Business Competitiveness (FUNDEC) to explore potential collaboration on digital connectivity, business competitiveness and economic development.
The meeting took place on 27 October at INCM’s premises, with the regulator’s Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Helena Fernandes, receiving a FUNDEC delegation led by Agostinho Vuma. The discussions focused on areas where cooperation could strengthen the relationship between communications infrastructure and economic growth.
Potential areas of collaboration include economic studies and analysis platforms to support decision-making, business connectivity, digital economy development, technology platforms, artificial intelligence, digital sovereignty and economic intelligence. The discussions also covered assessing the postal sector’s contribution to the economy.
During the meeting, INCM presented its regulatory, statistical and cartographic tools, alongside investments and initiatives aimed at developing Mozambique’s communications sector. The regulator also outlined ongoing efforts to expand access to communication services and improve service quality, particularly in rural areas.
The proposed collaboration could enable FUNDEC’s research to support assessments of the economic and social impact of connectivity investments, especially among businesses and communities reached through rural communications expansion programmes. The findings could help the institutions identify the benefits of existing initiatives and opportunities to improve their effectiveness.
The two institutions highlighted their shared interest in using digital connectivity to strengthen business competitiveness, expand access to communication services and support Mozambique’s broader economic development. No formal partnership agreement was announced in the statement.
