Uganda’s FIA Receives ISO 27001:2022 Information Security Certification
The certification was presented at a ceremony officiated by Henry Musasizi, Uganda’s Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development. It recognises the adoption of an internationally recognised framework for managing information security risks and protecting sensitive information.
Uganda’s Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) has received ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for its Information Security Management System (ISMS), following a handover by the National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U).
The certification was presented at a ceremony officiated by Henry Musasizi, Uganda’s Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development. It recognises the adoption of an internationally recognised framework for managing information security risks and protecting sensitive information.
FIA is among the selected ministries, departments and agencies participating in the World Bank-funded ISMS Implementation Project. NITA-U is implementing the initiative through the Uganda Digital Acceleration Project – Government Network (UDAP-GovNet).
Speaking on behalf of NITA-U Executive Director Dr Hatwib Mugasa, Johnson Tumusiime, Acting Director of Information Security at NITA-U, congratulated FIA on the achievement and described it as an example for other government institutions.
Tumusiime said stronger information security management systems across public institutions would help improve government-wide data protection, adding that NITA-U would continue supporting ministries, departments and agencies in developing the systems, skills and organisational practices needed to safeguard government information.
The certification is expected to strengthen FIA’s information security practices, enhance stakeholder confidence and support cybersecurity resilience and digital governance. As a financial intelligence agency handling sensitive information, FIA’s adoption of the standard is particularly relevant to protecting the integrity of its systems and data.
The milestone comes as Uganda expands digital government services and strengthens information security measures across public institutions.
