Algeria and UNDP Sign Agreement to Accelerate National Digital Transformation
The initiative is designed to modernize public services, expand connectivity, and strengthen the nation’s digital economy in line with Algeria’s goal of achieving technological sovereignty.
Algeria’s High Commission for Digitalization (HCN) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have entered a two-year cooperation agreement aimed at accelerating Algeria’s digital transformation. The initiative is designed to modernize public services, expand connectivity, and strengthen the nation’s digital economy in line with Algeria’s goal of achieving technological sovereignty.
Through this collaboration, UNDP will provide specialized technical support and expertise to develop national training programs, build local talent, and promote the integration of international digital standards. The plan also includes policy guidance, innovation support, and the creation of partnerships among government institutions, academia, startups, and private sector players to establish a sustainable digital ecosystem.
This effort aligns with Algeria’s broader national digital strategy, which prioritizes startup growth, digital literacy, and universal access to internet services. As of 2025, Algeria recorded over 54 million mobile connections—surpassing its population—and an internet penetration rate nearing 77%, signaling strong progress toward full digital inclusion.
The agreement directly supports the government’s agenda to advance digitalization across all sectors, enhancing data interoperability, modernizing administrative systems, and improving service delivery for citizens. Over time, the initiative is expected to boost digital innovation, empower entrepreneurs, and solidify Algeria’s position as a regional leader in digital governance and technological advancement.
