April 9, 2020

Author: Editorial Team

One of the cable’s major clients, the South African National Research & Education Network (SA NREN), reported the initial outage but has now stated that there is “final confirmation that the WACS repairs are complete and everything is according to specification. This matter is now resolved.”

The cable outage came at a particularly inopportune time, as many South Africans are working and studying at home due to the current pandemic. The outage resulted in slow internet speeds for many users, with fellow cable provider Seacom carrying extra traffic on its network.
