MultiChoice Botswana opens an agency in Molepolole, employing more Batswana youth

Back in 1992, before digital satellite TV had even launched in Africa, MultiChoice Africa and a local Batswana conglomerate joined forces to bring next-generation TV to Botswana. The business operated out of one small branch in Gaborone’s Main Mall, with a handful of employees and very few customers.

Rooted in the soil of Botswana and nurtured by the hopes of a nation, MultiChoice Botswana was born with the vision of proactively contributing to the country’s economy and playing a major, positive role in Botswana’s future.

A pioneer in cutting-edge video entertainment, MultiChoice Botswana introduced the first-ever pay-TV service to the country. The business was determined to use this as a vehicle for economic investment and the broader upliftment of local communities. As a result of this solid foundation, MultiChoice Botswana was able to spread its wings, providing employment for Batswana while simultaneously upskilling staff through training and development.

Over the years, MultiChoice Botswana has widened its reach in terms of creating employment opportunities through expanding its footprint with agencies and Direct Sales Force Agents. To date, MultiChoice Botswana has 8 agencies spread across Botswana, enabling local citizens to create streams of income for themselves and for those who they directly employ.

In 2019, MultiChoice Botswana added one more agency to its already existing network, in Molepolole. Owned and run by Thuso Akatoka Inambao of Inam Holdings, the newly launched Molepolole agency has created jobs for residents of the village whilst also providing DStv customers with convenience.

“I have always had a keen interest in technology and gadgets, since 2003 when I first embarked on my entrepreneurial journey and opened up Inam Holdings,” says Inambao. “When MultiChoice released an Expression of Interest for Agency Owners in 2019, I was quick to respond as I knew this would be an opportunity for me to create employment in the village.”

The Inam Holdings MultiChoice agency currently directly employs four young Batswana with plans to quickly expand in Molepolole alone, with another branch in Serowe, “Plans are in place to hire 40 Sales Agents in both Molepolole and Serowe. The company’s aim is to have around 100 employees who will be mainly youth. They will be provided with training which will also empower them for the future,” Inambao added.

With everything that is changing around us in these challenging times, MultiChoice Botswana remains committed to contributing to the efforts put in place by the Government of Botswana to create employment opportunities for citizens, particularly among the youth.

“As a business we are well aware of how badly the pandemic has impacted the lives of Batswana, and stories like that of Thuso Inambao, an employer passionate about not only creating more jobs but about training and empowering those he employs, brings us great pride as a business but more importantly, as Batswana,” said Lorato Mwape, Acting Managing Director for MultiChoice Botswana.
