The telecom giant, Orange is now showing interest in acquiring a stake in the Ethiopian telco company, Ethio Telecom.

Ethiopia’s ambassador to France, Henok Tereffa Shawl took to twitter to announce Orange’s overt interest in the ongoing privatisation of Ethiopia’s telco firm.

This partial privatisation of the telco company is expected to attract significant interest as the Ethiopian government puts up 40% of Ethio Telecom for sale.

In their aim to pursue privatisation of the telecom sector, Ethiopia had also awarded a private operator’s license to a Safaricom-led consortium in May 2021.
