After a 5 year tenure as the Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania, Hisham Hendi will be leaving his position to join as the new Consumer Business Unit Director at Vodafone Spain. The Vodacom Group CEO, Shameel Joosub announced the following in a statement.

“After 5 successful years at Vodacom Tanzania, Hisham Hendi, currently, Managing Director (MD) will be leaving Vodacom Tanzania at the end of November 2021.

He moves on to take on a new assignment as the Consumer Business Unit Director at Vodafone Spain.

Hisham has been with Vodacom/Vodafone for over 15 years, having started his career at Vodafone Group and Vodafone Egypt where he assumed various roles in Digital & Content, Postpaid & Prepaid Business, and consumer marketing.

He was appointed MD of Vodacom Tanzania in 2019. Prior to that, he occupied the role of Chief Commercial Officer for Vodacom International Business, while serving as a board member at Vodacom Mozambique and Vodacom Tanzania respectively.

During his tenure as MD of Vodacom Tanzania, he pioneered connectivity access for millions of Tanzanians who had previously been unconnected, drove financial inclusion through innovative mobile financial services, and played an instrumental role in the historic initial public offering (IPO) listing of Vodacom Tanzania on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, which not only is their largest ever IPO but also Vodacom Tanzania remains the only Telecommunications company on the bourse.

I would like to thank Hisham for his contribution to Vodacom and wish him well in his new role. His resilience and commitment to leading through difficult conditions are admirable. I commend his passion and drive to transforming lives, and serving Tanzania with dedication.

Hisham’s successor will be announced soon.”
