Author: Akim Benamara

Following the news of the launch of Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia, the Federal Government of Ethiopia announced they have granted Africa’s leading fintech, M-Pesa, to operate in the country.

M-PESA in Ethiopia is going to be competing with the state-owned telecom service, Telebirr. The launch of M-PESA in Ethiopia has made Safaricom the first foreign company to launch mobile money services in the country.

When I came to Ethiopia, the people of Kenya gave me the assignment to make this service allowed. I think the Ethiopian Government for allowing this service.

William Ruto, President, Kenya
