Former CEO of MTN South Africa, Godfrey Motsa, has been appointed to the board of directors at Cell C. Cell C, with its largest shareholder being Blue Label Telecoms listed on the JSE, has also welcomed Maya Makanjee, a former director of Vodacom South Africa, to its board.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Cell C expressed that these appointments highlight the company’s strategic focus on accelerating growth and instilling confidence in investors. The impressive track records and diverse experiences of Motsa and Makanjee are expected to provide valuable guidance for Cell C’s future endeavors.

Cell C Chairman, Joe Mthimunye, expressed enthusiasm about the new additions to the board, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Maya and Godfrey to our board. Their remarkable achievements and broad expertise will strategically guide Cell C as we move forward.”

Motsa, who stepped down as CEO of MTN South Africa in December 2021, joined Telesure Investment Holdings as the non-life CEO for prominent brands like Auto & General Insurance, 1st for Women Insurance, Dialdirect Insurance, and Budget Insurance. He has previously held senior positions at Vodacom Group and Coca-Cola.

Meanwhile, Makanjee serves on multiple boards, including her role as chair at Datatec. She is currently the CEO of FinMark Trust and previously held the position of chief officer for corporate affairs at Vodacom from 2012 to 2016.

Cell C emphasized that Maya’s expertise in stakeholder engagement, corporate citizenship, sustainable development, and Godfrey’s transformative leadership and market insights will drive their growth and solidify their position as a serious competitor in the telecommunications industry. According to Cell C’s statement, this strategic move underscores their commitment to South Africa and their dedication to delivering exceptional value to stakeholders.
