The Rwandan Ministry of ICT and Innovation has taken a significant step towards bridging the digital divide by deploying Starlink internet in 50 schools across the country. This initiative, announced on July 5, aims to provide nearly 18,000 pupils with improved access to online learning opportunities and better learning outcomes.

With a focus on connecting schools in hard-to-reach locations, the deployment of Starlink satellite internet services in Rwanda is part of the government’s larger “School Connectivity Program.” Launched in March 2023, this program aims to ensure high-speed internet connectivity in all primary and secondary schools in Rwanda by the end of 2024. In the initial phase, Starlink will be utilized to connect 500 schools.

By integrating Starlink internet into these 50 Rwandan schools, the country is making significant progress in closing the digital gap. Students and educators will now have access to reliable and high-speed internet, empowering them with a wealth of educational resources, online learning platforms, and global information networks. This initiative is expected to enhance digital literacy, promote e-learning, and equip Rwandan students with the necessary tools to thrive in the digital age.

The deployment of Starlink internet in schools aligns with Rwanda’s commitment to leveraging technology for educational advancement. By ensuring universal internet connection in schools, particularly in remote areas, the government aims to create a more inclusive and digitally empowered education system. This endeavor reflects Rwanda’s dedication to fostering innovation, embracing digital transformation, and preparing its youth for a future driven by technology.

With the successful integration of Starlink internet in these schools, Rwanda is taking significant strides towards building a knowledge-based society and positioning itself as a leader in digital education within the region.
