Airtel Kenya has announced a positive change for its customers as it plans to reduce excise duty rates on its telecommunication services. The company shared in a statement on Tuesday that it will be revising its rates, with the new rates set to be effective from August 1, 2023. As part of this move, Airtel Kenya will reduce the excise duty from the current 20 percent to 15 percent on voice, data, and SMS services.

While this reduction will apply to voice, data, and SMS services, the transaction charges for Airtel money services will remain unaffected.

Airtel Kenya also expressed appreciation for the continued support of its customers, affirming that it remains the most affordable network in terms of voice, data, SMS, and Airtel money services.

In June, Airtel Kenya unveiled plans to expand its network coverage to meet the growing demand for data services across the country. The company joined Safaricom as one of the providers to launch 5G services in Kenya. According to Ashish Malhotra, the Managing Director of Airtel Kenya, the telco currently operates over 370 active 5G sites in 16 counties and 180 wards nationwide, providing data speeds up to 10 times faster than 4G and seamless connectivity for various devices.
