Safaricom Limited’s board director, Michael Joseph, has tendered his resignation, effective from August 1, according to an official press release issued by the company on Tuesday.

Michael Joseph is hailed as the founding chief executive officer of Safaricom, the leading telecommunications company in Kenya. The company has acknowledged his instrumental role in transforming Safaricom from a subscriber base of under 18,000 in 2000 to a staggering 17 million subscribers upon his retirement in 2010.

Over the past two decades, Joseph has held various pivotal roles within Safaricom. His contributions have spanned across different capacities, including serving as a general manager, two separate tenures as chief executive officer, and once as the chairman of the board.

The departure of Michael Joseph from Safaricom’s board marks the conclusion of a remarkable journey that witnessed the telecom giant’s meteoric rise under his leadership. The news of his resignation has sparked discussions about the company’s future trajectory and its ongoing pursuit of innovation and growth in Kenya’s highly competitive telecommunications landscape.
