M-PESA Foundation, through its Citizen of the Future programme, has handed over newly constructed infrastructure to schools in Bungoma, Vihiga and Kakamega counties.

In an event at Naitiri S.A. Primary School in Bungoma County, graced by The President H.E. Dr. William Ruto, the M-PESA Foundation announced the completion and handover of infrastructure at four schools: Naitiri RC and Naitiri S.A Primary Schools in Bungoma County, Gamoi Primary School in Vihiga County, and Shitirira Primary School in Kakamega County.

At M-PESA Foundation, our Citizens of the Future programme seeks to support education across 47 counties by providing infrastructure support, and ultimately improve education outcomes and access to education for children from underprivileged backgrounds, including those with disabilities. Today, we are privileged to have the support of the Head of State in our efforts to transform lives through education.

At Naitiri S.A Primary School, the Foundation has constructed and furnished eight classrooms, an ECDE centre, and ablution blocks for both learners and staff. The Foundation also constructed and furnished an administration block, a kitchen, and set up a water harvesting system.

At Naitiri RC Primary School, the Foundation completed the renovation and furnishing of six classrooms, construction of ablution blocks for both boys and girls, installation of water tanks, and provision of furniture.

In Vihiga County, Gamoi Primary School had 20 classrooms renovated while a kitchen was constructed and furnished. Ablution blocks for both boys and girls were also constructed, and a water harvesting system installed.

In Kakamega County, Shitirira Primary School is set to enjoy enhanced water access after the Foundation funded the drilling and development of a borehole, the construction of an elevated water platform, water fetching points and a water kiosk for selling water to the neighboring community.

Since its inception in 2010, M-PESA Foundation’s education programmes have benefitted over 1.3 million learners in all 47 counties through initiatives such as the M-PESA Foundation Academy, which enrolls disadvantaged children, the Keeping Girls in School programme that has ensured over 800,000 girls have access to sanitary towels and through infrastructure support to schools.

In the next 3 years, 3 million learners are expected to benefit from M-PESA Foundation initiatives including a scholarship programme for senior school students and a comprehensive TVET Programme that will contribute to improving employability among the youth.
