Author: Akim Benamara

MWC Barcelona  is just around the corner, set to kick off next week. TechAfrica News is proud to be a media partner, collaborating closely with our editorial team to ensure you’re fully informed about what to anticipate from this year’s edition.

With the theme “Future First,” this year’s event aims to tackle both current challenges and those on the horizon. This overarching theme is complemented by six sub-themes that reflect the latest trends and technologies, including 5G and Beyond, Connecting Everything, Humanising AI, Manufacturing DX, Game Changers, and Our Digital DNA.

GSMA brought MWC to Africa with the Kigali edition, and now, at TechAfrica News, we’re excited to bring MWC Barcelona to our audience in Africa and the Middle East. We will keep you up to date with the latest MWC insights and developments that will define the next wave of technological advancements.

Akim Benamara, Founder of TechAfrica News

MWC Barcelona will showcase diverse topics and themes reflecting the forefront of technological innovation and its impact on various industries. From discussions on the evolution and implications of 5G and beyond to the humanization of AI and its transformative potential, the event will delve into pressing issues such as cybersecurity, digital health, fintech, and green technology. Sessions will explore the intersection of technology and sustainability, emphasizing the importance of corporate collaboration and responsible AI development.

This year’s edition of MWC Barcelona will mark 18 years that we’ve been bringing our flagship event to the city of Barcelona, and we are grateful for our unique public-private partnership built on innovation, collaboration and mutual success. MWC is a unifying force that emphasises how mobile technology transcends political, geographical, and cultural boundaries, and we cannot wait to kick off this gathering of the world’s most innovative and entrepreneurial minds next month.

Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA

Shaping the future with conversations today

The sessions planned for MWC Barcelona 2024 will provide insights into the future of mobility, manufacturing, and digital transformation while also addressing key considerations such as diversity, talent development, and ethical practices in the digital age. With a focus on cutting-edge advancements and thought leadership, MWC Barcelona will serve as a platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to exchange ideas, foster collaborations, and shape the trajectory of the digital landscape.

X5G and Beyond

The impending 5G Advanced phase emphasizes end-to-end AI integration, envisioning future mobile generations that rapidly learn, self-orchestrate, and introduce novel ways of interacting with devices. However, the accelerated rollout of mobile generations prompts contemplation on patience versus the industry’s quick pace of evolution.

Connecting Everything

The industry’s goal to have 6.3 billion global mobile subscribers and five billion 5G connections by 2030. With over 15 billion projected connected IoT devices, the emphasis lies on developing open, seamless, sustainable, and secure network solutions. Collaboration across the mobile ecosystem is deemed essential for building adaptable and cost-efficient networks.

Humanising AI

Generative AI’s impact is acknowledged, emphasizing practical applications. This includes optimizing processes and tools for accelerated transformation in networks or clouds. The centrality of data and data management is highlighted in fostering natural interactions between individuals and computers, leading to personalized experiences.

Game Changers

Looks forward to 2024, anticipating transformative technologies. AI’s shift from big to small data for personalized consumer experiences, the imminent impact of quantum computing, and the boundary-blurring nature of extended reality are highlighted. The dynamics of use cases and ecosystems are expected to undergo substantial changes.

Our Digital DNA

In the telco industry, sustainability and diversity are now core priorities. Talent acquisition is set to double in growth, but there’s a concerning decline in women in tech leadership. Despite efforts for sustainability, we fall short of UN targets. In our digital future, embedding societal change in our core, our digital DNA, is imperative.

Manufacturing DX

Technological evolution is reshaping competition by offering sustainable solutions, enhancing factory efficiency, boosting production performance, and reducing costs. With growing investments in AI and robotics from entities like the European Commission and various companies, the potential for fully realizing the value of Industry 4.0 is becoming increasingly tangible.

MWC is no longer mobile first, or digital first, we are Future First – and the event brings industries, technologies and communities together, to realise the future’s potential for the sustainability of our society and planet. At MWC Barcelona, you will have the opportunity to engage with the leaders of the moment and participate in the debates of the year, while experiencing the technology of tomorrow.
