Transforming how young students learn and share knowledge, Ooredoo partnered with ZTE, a global leading provider of information and communication technology solutions, and Dhofar University to establish a cutting-edge 5G Innovation Center (5GIC). The smart and next-gen 5G campus will be located at Dhofar University’s Faculty of Engineering and will drive innovation and continuous learning, shaping a brighter future for all stakeholders in Oman. Meanwhile, the name of the tripartite university-industry partnership will be the ‘Dhofar University – Ooredoo – ZTE 5G Innovation Lab Project’.

This collaboration between industry and academia is part of our commitment to playing a significant role in driving Oman’s digital transformation and supporting Omani youth and education. The smart 5G campus will upgrade the learning environment for students in Oman and support the emerging Internet of Skills. In an increasingly connected world, we need to leverage the many powers of 5G and IoT technologies, which, thanks to 5G’s ultra-low latency and super-fast connectivity, includes the creation of outstanding remote and virtual learning environments.

Bassam Yousef Al Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo

We are honored to cooperate with Ooredoo and Dhofar University in Salalah, Oman, to establish a cutting-edge 5G Innovation Center. The collaborative efforts demonstrate ZTE’s commitment to the Omani society by driving innovation, fostering continuous education and nurturing telecommunications industry talents at Dhofar University and across Oman.

Zhang Meng, Managing Director of Ooredoo Group Business Unit, ZTE

We are excited that a 5G Innovation Center will be established at our campus. This center will serve as a national hub for education, research and training, empowering students, faculty, and professionals to explore the full potential of cutting-edge 5G technologies and related Internet of Things (IoT). This initiative aligns with DU’s commitment to academic excellence by integrating the latest technological advancement in our curriculum to help equip graduates hone their practical skills and be ready to contribute to the development of our beloved nation in line with Oman Vision 2040.

Professor Amer Al Rawas, Vice Chancellor, Dhofar University (DU)
