Safaricom Ethiopia Begins Local Manufacturing of Telecom Infrastructure
In a significant development, Safaricom Ethiopia has commenced the localization of its infrastructure manufacturing. CEO Wim Vanhelleputte attended a handover ceremony at Woda Metal plc headquarters in Tefki town, marking the receipt of the first batch of 13 locally manufactured telecom towers.
Safaricom has ordered a total of 68 network towers from Woda Metal plc, the first Ethiopian company to produce such towers.
This is a historic moment for Safaricom in Ethiopia as we have started the localization of the manufacturing of our infrastructure. The quality of their towers is good; their galvanization plant is the biggest in East Africa and their cost-effectiveness will enable us to expand our network more efficiently and effectively.
