Safaricom Launches Network in Tigray, Supported by Regional Administration

Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC officially launched its network in Tigray, marking a significant milestone for the region. The launch ceremony was graced by the President of the Interim Regional Administration of Tigray, Getachew Reda, who described the event as one of the most exciting milestones in Tigray since the return of social services to the area. He reiterated his administration’s full support for Safaricom’s initiatives in the region.

Safaricom’s CEO, Wim Vanhelleputte, highlighted that the company has established a self-built network in Tigray, featuring 125 towers. He announced that today marks the completion of the first phase, with the second phase, expanding into Northern and Western Tigray, already underway. Vanhelleputte expressed his gratitude to the interim regional administration for their unwavering support.
