NCA Addresses Internet Data Pricing Concerns and MTN’s Significant Market Power Status

July 24, 2024
1 min read
Author: Editorial Team

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has responded to public concerns, particularly on social media, regarding high internet data pricing and the designation of MTN as a Significant Market Power (SMP). The NCA reassures consumers that it is committed to fair competition and protecting their interests in the telecommunications sector.

As the regulatory body, the NCA’s decision to classify MTN as an SMP aligns with its mission to maintain a level playing field in the market. This classification is not intended to hinder MTN but to ensure fair competition and protect consumer choice. Measures like asymmetric interconnection rates, tariff parity, and technology neutrality are being implemented to promote competition, encourage innovation, and protect consumers’ interests.

The NCA assured its consumers that it will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to provide reliable internet access and uphold fair market practices.
