GSMA and Ethio Telecom Launch Key Report on Ethiopia’s Digital Transformation and Economic Growth
The GSMA, in collaboration with Ethio telecom, officially launched its first comprehensive report on Ethiopia’s digital transformation in Addis Ababa, examining the successes, opportunities, and challenges of building a robust digital economy.
The report highlights the impact of Ethiopia’s digital transformation on social and economic growth, fostering innovation and realizing sustainable development, while also acknowledging the country’s ongoing efforts to boost its digital ecosystem.
According to the report, the telecom sector has emerged as a key economic driver in Ethiopia, accounting for 8% of GDP in 2023, including the ecosystem, indirect and productivity impacts.
The findings of the report are expected to enhance global recognition of Ethiopia’s initiatives in digital transformation.
During the event, Eng. Balcha Reba, Director General of ECA, praised GSMA and Ethio telecom for organizing the event. He emphasized its importance in uniting stakeholders in the industry and reaffirmed his support for telecom operators, ensuring the continued growth and development of the industry.
