Cellucity Celebrates 30 Years and Wins Vodacom’s Best Postpaid Channel Award at 2024 CEO Awards
Celebrating thirty years as a leading cellular retail business in South Africa, Cellucity was recognised as Vodacom’s Best Postpaid Channel at the recent 2024 Vodacom CEO Awards. Vodacom acknowledged Cellucity’s exceptional performance in postpaid customer additions, revenue growth, customer satisfaction, and the company’s overall commitment to excellence. The Award marks a milestone in Cellucity’s longstanding relationship with Vodacom, the country’s leading cellular network.
Cellucity was selected as the winner by Vodacom South Africa’s executive management, based on achievements in gross and nett customer additions, revenue growth, enterprise growth, management of churn, and overall total net promoters scores, which are a measure of the service delivered to Vodacom’s customers.
Contract customers are our bread and butter, and with over 6.8 million contract customers, it is still as important as ever that we keep growing and maintaining our contract base. Cellucity has had an outstanding year in a tough economy, showing solid growth across all their KPI’s.
– Statement by Vodacom
Founded in 1994 by the entrepreneur Sean Joffe, Cellucity has grown from a modest cellular dealership into a market leader with a vibrant online presence and 32 award-winning retail branches across South Africa.
Cellucity quickly established itself as an industry leader in customer-centricity and innovation, becoming the World’s first dealership to sell pre-paid SIM cards and pre-paid airtime recharge vouchers. The company was also the first South African retailer to operate within a shopping mall with its first store opening at the V&A Waterfront, the first to offer virtual airtime vouchers and the first cellular e-commerce website in South Africa.
Our focus has always been to provide our customers with innovative and great quality brands, the best service and unparalleled customer assistance and support. This is what sets us apart from other cellular franchises, and it shows in our customer feedback.
We are always on the lookout for the latest in cellular and tech products with our procurement team regularly travelling to international trade shows to handpick the best and exclusive products.
– Chris Henschel, Director, Cellucity
Looking forward, Cellucity is committed to expanding its service offerings and delivering more value to its customers through new products and enhanced customer experience initiatives.
We are in a very mature market and cellular technology has reached a current plateau where innovation in handset design has stagnated somewhat. That said, access to better technology is becoming more readily available through the formalisation of the circular economy where consumers can trade in their old devices, and have these refurbished and made available for resale.
This circular economy makes more expensive technology easier for consumers to access and contributes to a reduction in e-waste. So when we look to the future we are continually looking at reducing waste, and supporting manufacturers and distributors who use as much recycled material as possible – all so that we can provide our customers with greener products.
– Chris Henschel, Director, Cellucity
By centralising its refurbishment and sourcing of phones locally, Cellucity aims to be the de facto standard for consumers to get the most value when buying, trading in or repairing their devices.
The Vodacom Award is the cherry-on-top as we mark three decades in business this November. It reinforces Cellucity’s leadership in the telecommunications industry, and also strengthens our mission of being a one-stop-shop for world-class mobile solutions for South Africans consumers.
