Kenya’s fiber infrastructure project connects 278 institutions in the west, with plans to link 377 more sites across four counties by 2025.

The National Optic Fiber Cable Backbone Infrastructure project is driving digital connectivity across Kenya’s western region. So far, 278 institutions have been connected, with ambitious plans to link 377 additional sites by 2025.

In Bungoma County, 83 institutions are already benefiting from enhanced connectivity. The project plans to expand this to 116 more sites next year, advancing the county’s digital accessibility.

Busia County has also seen significant progress, with 50 institutions connected. Plans are in place to add 81 more sites by 2025, further bolstering the region’s digital infrastructure.

In Vihiga County, 54 institutions have been linked to the optic fiber network. Another 52 sites are slated for connection in 2025, ensuring broader access to digital services.

Kakamega County leads the region with 91 institutions already connected. The project aims to expand this reach to 128 more sites by next year.
