Telecom Namibia restores SATLINK services after a 3-month satellite outage, with full customer reconnection expected within six weeks.

Telecom Namibia is pleased to confirm that connection to the satellite feed, enabling SATLINK services on its VSAT platform has been fully restored as from 19 January 2025. The company and its international partners explored various options over the past 3 months to restore services following an incident on 19 October 2024, which impacted the IS 33e satellite and disrupted service to all SATLINK customers connected to the Telecom Namibia VSAT network.

Telecom Namibia, in collaboration with its international partners swiftly attended to the situation. Within 3 weeks after the satellite failure, alternative satellite connectivity with limited capacity was established and service to 50% of the affected customer base was restored.

Additional satellite capacity was obtained, and infrastructure preparations were successfully completed on 19 January 2025. This enables Telecom Namibia to attend to the reconnection of all remaining affected customers.

Restoration of all remaining affected services is a priority and has resumed. Telecom Namibia is committed to the speedy restoration of remaining affected services. Dedicated technical teams are therefore assigned throughout the country, to visit all customer premises. It is anticipated that the restoration of all services will be concluded within 6 weeks.

Telecom Namibia apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this incident and appreciates the patience and understanding of its valued customers.
